Information for Students
Reserve is a service provided by the Library in order to allow you to have access to course readings such as prescribed texts, articles and lecture notes.

Prescribed texts are available for use within the Library usually for a period of two hours and will be available from behind a campus service desk or, in the case of Footscray Park and St Albans, from the Open Reserve room.

Electronic Reserve provides electronic access to lecture notes and articles. Materials can be retrieved and printed from any of Victoria University's campus Libraries so access is available on campus whenever the Libraries are open.

For off campus access you will need a computer and software that meets the following specifications. These specifications must be adhered to for successful use of the off campus e-reserve service.

A CD-ROM with Mozilla and Adobe Acrobat Reader is available at most campuses.

Not all lecture notes and course readings are made available by academic staff via the Library's Electronic reserve facility. If you do not locate your notes or article using the catalogue other sources you might check are:

  • Faculty of Business - Central Point
  • WebCT
  • Check with your lecturer/teacher/tutor
Information for Staff
The Library can include URLs in E-Reserve. If you have a course web site on the staff server or a faculty server - submit the URL and the Library can include it on the catalogue as part of E-Reserve. This will make it much easier for students to locate. They simply need to type in their course code or the lecturer/teachers name in as a Reserve search on the catalogue and they will see a link through to the URL of your site.

In order to provide efficient access to E-Reserve articles across variable Internet connections, it is sometimes necessary for E-Reserve staff to mount a scanned version of an article in multiple sections.
